Part 1- Word Processing (A)
Prior to taking this competency assessment you should re-familiarize yourself with the TCA Agreement Form. That form can be found at the following website: http://www.byuiedtechlab.com/tca-agreements.html
Instructions:
1. Look over the following instructions, content, and example given to you by the lab assistant.
2. We recommend using an Internet timer to keep track of your time during the test. (You can Google the keyword “Timer” to find one easily).
3. When you are completely ready to start your test, let the Lab Assistant know by messaging them "Start Time" in the chat box on Zoom and this will officially start your time.
4. When you are finished you are responsible for making sure the Lab Assistant is notified of your official end time in the chat box, as explained below. (We recommend reviewing your test one last time before finishing).
Follow all directions carefully. Using the content provided on this webpage, create a poster in Microsoft Word about the After-School Homework Club. The poster should look as close to the example as possible (same layout, colors, fonts, etc.), while following the written instructions exactly. You may want to check off the tasks as you go to make sure you don’t miss any.

- Change the page to a landscape (horizontal) orientation.
- Format text into two columns
- Adjust the top margin to 1.4 inches and the bottom margin to .5 inches.
- Copy and paste the text from the content website into the left column.
- Change the main body text to Palatino (or Palatino Linotype), 14 pt., red.
- Format the bulleted items and italicize "Serving with Smiles" as shown in the example.
- Insert a 2X2 table and add text as shown in the example. Change the text to Palatino (or Palatino Linotype), 14 pt. font, black.
- Insert a text box at the top of the page for the title “After-School Homework Club”. (Do not use the Header feature.)
- Change the font of the title to Tahoma, 36 pt. font, green, bold.
- Insert the image of the student into the right column.
- Insert two shapes that match the example.
- Add text to the shapes to match the example. (Do not use a separate text box to add text to the shapes).
- Change the speech bubble text to Times New Roman, 14 pt. font, black.
- Change the banner text to Times New Roman, 16 pt. font, black.
- Change the fill color and outline color of the shapes to match the example.
- Insert a hyperlink from the words “school website” to http://www.byuiedtechlab.com, then test your hyperlink to make sure it works.
- Follow the instruction provided to you by your proctor in the chat box in Zoom.
- When you are completely finished write "I'm Done" in the chat box with your proctor. This will allow them to mark the end time for your test. If you make any changes to your test after this time it will be counted as an automatic fail.
- Then the proctor will request mouse controls for your computer using Zoom. Choose "Accept" and the proctor will have remote control of your computer and will grade the test.
- The proctor will then delete any confidential testing items that have been provided to you on your computer and empty the trash can. If you do not comply with the stipulations on this portion of the test it will be counted as an automatic fail.

Come join Miss Shumway in the Lyman Elementary School Technology Lab and work on your homework and projects. Volunteer tutors don’t give direct instruction. Instead they show students how to find the answers themselves. Students will also have access to the computers for any research they need to complete. In addition, students may take the opportunity to complete their daily reading assignments. This Club will give students the opportunity to complete their homework assignments before they go home.
Open to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders. Mondays – Thursdays, 3:15 – 4:30 pm. Tutors are volunteer BYU-Idaho students. Provides structure and attention. Develops organizational skills.
